Brandenburg UMC seeks to build relationships and impact our community by
empowering those within our church to serve, give and love those within the
local community in the name of Jesus our Lord. We continue to develop
creative opportunities to partner with local ministries that will promote
and expand the Kingdom of God.
- New Life International
One-day trips to Underwood Indiana, one-half hour north of Louisville, to
work with other churches in assembling water purification units for mission
settings. These units have been taken by BUMC teams to Kenya and by other
teams to Pass Christian and over 68 countries throughout the world. Open to
youth 12 and over.
- United Methodist Vacation Retreat / Buddy Camp
One-week trips to the UM Vacation Retreat Camp to act as buddies for the
mentally challenged. BUMC United Methodist Women lead these trips.
- Habitat for Humanity, BUMC, Elizabethtown District and Meade County
BUMC has acted at prime contractor for a Habitat House in Brandenburg which was funded and constructed by BUMC volunteers with the support of community firms, volunteers and churches. We also support the new endeavor of UMC Elizabethtown District Habitat House as well as Meade County Habitat for Humanity. Opportunities exist for support in the area of construction, bookkeeping, coordinating, providing meals, donating supplies, and financial support to teams. Doug Stone is the liaison between BUMC and the Meade County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

- Jail Ministry
Brandenburg United Methodist Church Mission Team supports the Meade County Interdenominational Jail Ministry at the Meade County Detention Center. Opportunities to lead and/or participate in worship services, Bible and book studies, and life skills training to both men and women at the jail. Services are on a rotational monthly or bi-monthly basis and are shared with other county churches. BUMC contact is Lee Klockow. - Teen Challenge / Lifeline of Meade County
Interdenominational faith-based recovery and life skills programs for everyone. Open to participation or to becoming a facilitator. This program is also taken into the Meade County Detention Center where we participate or facilitate. In addition we host drug awareness seminars and support this program financially. - Clothes Closet and Food Pantry Meade County
Opportunities exist to volunteer at the interdenominational Meade County
Clothes Closet for several hours during the week on an alternating monthly
basis. BUMC also hosts food drives twice a year to help stock the Pantry.
- Medco
Opportunities are provided to volunteer two months during the year for
several hours on Sundays participating in the worship service and visiting
the residents.
- Compassion Children and Compassion Sunday
Select and support a child! BUMC facilitates support of needy children
throughout the world by BUMC families through the interdenominational
Compassion International organization. Monthly support is currently $32 and
furnishes Christian training, education, medical and dental support, as well
as clothing and basic needs to a specific child of your selection.
Correspondence and actually visiting your child is encouraged.
- UM Mountain Mission
Save your items and donate them to those in need in rural Appalachia.
Several times throughout the year donations of clothing and household items
are requested and collected at BUMC to be donated to the Mountain Mission
for distribution throughout Appalachia. More information is available at kyumc.org
- Angel Tree
Provide a gift to local children in need at Christmas! Christmas gifts are provided to Meade County children of the incarcerated through Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship program. Your involvement can be expanded to mentoring and supporting the child throughout the year including placement in Upward basketball and summer camp.
- Samaritans Purse Christmas Shoeboxes
Provide a gift to children in need throughout the world at Christmas!
Shoeboxes filled with personal and gift items are collected at BUMC prior to
Christmas for distribution throughout the world.
- Christmas Baskets
Provide nourishment and a little something special to a local family at Christmas! Each Christmas BUMC provides holiday baskets of food and household items to families in need as part of our Angel Tree outreach. Sign up to help procure and package baskets.
- UMCOR Equal Exchange Coffee Program
You can support small farmers throughout the world in fair trade simply by
buying their product! This is an interdenominational program whereby
coffee, tea and chocolate are sold at BUMC with proceeds benefiting both
international small farmers and the BUMC Mission Team. UMCOR and Equal
Exchange not only provide a fair price to small farmers for their product
but also assist with education, loans, medical facilities and training in
organic farming methods.
- Support to Missionaries
Missionary prayer, correspondence, and financial support opportunities exist to pray for, correspond with, and assist financially any of our mission families. Prayer is critical to their support and commitment to pray for them is a blessing. Mission families are supported financially as part of the Mission Team budget, through special Communion offerings, and/or your direct donations. In addition, you can be involved in hosting one of the families when they come to BUMC to visit and speak. This is also an interdenominational effort. Missionaries we support include the Davis Family (OMS), Morrissey Family in Thailand (UMC World Advance), Buchanan Family in Ghana (The Mission Society), and The Duffer Family in Mongolia (English Language Institute). - Other Financial Support Within The United Methodist Community
Special communion offerings are taken for Methodist Children's Home of Kentucky, Wesley Manor for Seniors, Portland Promise Center, Portland KY (Louisville). BUMC Mission Team Lead is Charlotte Shepard.
